PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder for a layered scavenging two cycle engine of good scavenging capacity, simplified structure and low cost. SOLUTION: A pair of scavenging holes 14, 14 are provided on the wall facing a cylinder 2 and each scavenging hole 14 is connected to a crankcase 7 through a scavenging passage 20 composed of a horizontal scavenging passage 22 and a vertical scavenging passage 21. The outer surface of the horizontal scavenging hole 14 is provided with an opening 23, to which an air feeding passage member 30 is fitted and the scavenging passage 20 is connected to an air feeding passage 31 through a check valve 32. The scavenging passage 20 can be made by die casting, has good scavenging capacity, and the cylinder of a simplified structure and low cost is obtainable.
