PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a probe for executing recording and reproducing of information which is high in reliability of recording and is capable of executing high-speed recording without damaging a recording medium and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: This probe has a probe constituted by forming a conductive probe 103 at the front end of a thin-film cantilever 101 fixed and supported at one end to a supporting member 104 and forming a piezoelectric resistor 102 electrically connected thereto on the surface of this thin-film cantilever 101 and executes the recording or reproduction of the information by oppositing the probe opposite to the recording medium and applying voltage. The probe described above has one wiring 106 for connecting the one end of the piezoelectric resistor 102 to an external circuit and another wiring 108 for connecting another one end of the resistor 102 to the external circuit via a current limiting resistor 105 formed in a position near the thin-film cantilever on the supporting member described above. The other wiring 108 is a wiring part for connecting the other one end of the piezoelectric resistor 102 to the current limiting resistor 105. The probe to be connected to the external circuit without the current limiting resistor 105 is thus constituted.
