PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of part items and raise rigidity of a direct striking type valve lifter and secure precision of the outside diameter of a cup member as well as to prevent the sliding portion from uneven wear and seizure and check the rotation of a cam contact with respect to a solid cam with a simplified structure. SOLUTION: A direct striking type valve lifter 5 is provided with a cam contact 6 coming into contact with a solid cam 2 and a cylindrical cup member 7 inserted into a lifter guide hole 10 in the cylinder head 9 in a slidable manner. An upheaved part 20 is integrally provided with an end wall part 18 of the cup member 7 and the cam contact 6 is supported by a semi-cylindrical internal seat 21 of the upheaved part 20 so that it can oscillate around the axis right- angled to a cam shaft 1 but not rotationally movable around the center line of a valve 4. A projection part 25 is integrally formed with the end wall part 18 and rotation of the cup member 7 with respect to the cylinder head 9 is checked by fitting the projection part 25 into a recessed groove 26 in the lifter guide hole 10.
