PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide images having proper density or contrast at all times, while eliminating the effects of photographic conditions and differences among individual solid detection elements. SOLUTION: A radiation solid detector 10 detects radiation carrying image information and outputs an analog image signal S. An A/D converter 11 converts the image signal S into digitized image data D0. A characteristic determination means 12 analyses the image data D0 by use of, e.g. cumulative histograms, to determine a standardization process characteristic for a standardization process so that proper density or contrast is achieved. A standardization process means 13 performs the standardization process on the basis of the standardization process characteristic determined, and outputs the image data D1 after the standardization process.
