PURPOSE: The apparatus of detecting a segment synchronization loss of HDTV is provided to decrease a power loss by operating the accumulator of an interference value only at a synchronization signal loss. CONSTITUTION: The method of detecting a segment synchronization loss of HDTV consists of the followings; when a segment synchronization is detected, the operation of a segment accumulator is stopped and saved the initial interference value of the synchronization location formed at detecting a segment synchronization; after getting the interference value of a segment synchronization from every segment by using the synchronization location formed at detecting a segment synchronization, the interference value saved initially is compared with the interference value of an existing location obtained already; when the difference after comparing a result is greater than a fixed value to be set the judgement of a segment synchronization loss, it is operated the accumulator to accumulate the interference value of whole segments; when the difference is smaller than a fixed value to be set the judgement of a segment synchronization, it is operated the accumulator to accumulate the interference value of an adjacent location.
