PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for selecting on-screen menu is to shorten a menu selecting time by rapidly changing a movement speed of an on-screen pointer. CONSTITUTION: An on-screen menu selecting method comprises shortening a menu selecting time by speeding a movement speed of pointer between different level icons than a movement speed between the same level icons. A key handling unit includes a remote controller and a key handler of panel, and particularly an on-screen pointer movement key for moving the on-screen pointer. An on-screen menu generating unit generates the on-screen menu. An on-screen pointer movement unit moves the on-screen pointer to correspond to a movement of the on-screen pointer movement key. An on-screen pointer speed controlling unit controls the movement speed of the on-screen pointer between the icons according to a predetermined control signal.
