PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide materials and a method for tunnel timbering wherewith timbering which is safe and can be stuck fast to the ground can be erected quickly at the ground which is easily collapsible on excavating a tunnel with a shield-type TBM employed especially. SOLUTION: A plurality of segments 8 divided in the circumferential direction are erected temporarily in the inside of a tail part 19 of a shield main body, thereby erecting an annular timbering 20. In compliance with propulsion of the tail part 19 of the shield main body, the timbering 20 is put in a relative movement in a timbering space between the tail part 19 and an already- constructed timbering 50, and by diametrally expanding the timbering 20 with wedge members 9 inserted between each of the segments 8 adjoining one another in the circumferential direction, the timbering is stuck fast to the ground.
