PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive a liquid crystal display panel of a dot matrix structure in a duty drive method to limit the power consumption when a display is performed only in a part of a display area. SOLUTION: When a common electrode in the area not used for display by a common electrode driving circuit 13 is selected in a liquid crystal display panel 11, a display limiting circuit 17 controls a display memory 14 so as not to perform the read of display data therefrom. A display data selector 19 is controlled so as not to give the output signal from a non-lighting data output circuit 18 to a segment electrode driving circuit 15. Since the read of display data from the display memory 14 is not performed, the power consumption can be reduced.
