PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the biting quantity to a rotary drum of a rotary head cleaner at the time of performing the cleaning of the rotary head to be determined with high accuracy as to a magnetic tape recording and reproducing device. SOLUTION: A DAT streamer is provided with a rotary head cleaning mechanism 50. An L-shaped arm 51 is rotatably supported to the shaft 52 on a chassis 41 and also is energized to the clockwise direction by a spring 57. A rotary head cleaner 54 is attached at one end of the arm 51. The arm 51 is rotated to a position where a bent part 51a strikes a stopper 60 and the cleaner 54 is abutted on a rotary drum 35 and the cleaning of rotary heads is performed. Since the stopper 60 is formed integrally with a drum base 40 and the bent part 51a is formed at the tip end of the arm 51, the rotational position of the arm 51 is determined with high accuracy and the biting quantity to the rotary drum of the cleaner is also determined with which accuracy.
