PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decide the relative position of a bogie on the basis of tubes to be inspected and, at the same time, to inspect the surface of a tube wall, such as the furnace wall of a boiler, independently from the pitch error of the tubes, by making the front and rear driving wheels of a bogie to stick by vacuum to one of the tubes and arranging the wheels in series in the moving direction of the bogie. SOLUTION: The surface of a tube wall 2, such as the furnace wall of a boiler, or the like, is inspected for wall thickness, flaws, etc., by running a tube-wall moving bogie 1 on the tube wall 2 in the axial directions of a plurality of tubes 3. The tube wall 2 is constituted by arranging the tubes 3 in parallel at regular pitches and welding plates 4 to the tubes 3 in the gaps among the tubes 3. The auxiliary wheels 11 of the bogie 1 are put on one of the plates 4 and the planimeter wheel 19 of the bogie 1 is put on the opposite-side tube 3 by making the front and rear driving wheels 8 of the bogie 1 to stick by vacuum to the surface of one 3A of the tubes 3 with the front side of the bogie 1 downward. After the bogie 1 is run downward to a prescribed measuring position, the bogie 1 is temporarily stopped and a sensor is pressed against the apex of the tube 3A for prescribed measurement. Since the relative position of the bogie 1 or sensor to the tube 3A is decided on the basis of the tube 3A itself, the relative position can be decided unequivocally.
