摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a liquid crystal display device, which makes a display by using the light from a back light and external light at the same time, to detect the illumination of the external light by an external light illumination detection sensor for controlling the luminance of the light from the back light in consideration of the field angle of a liquid crystal display panel. SOLUTION: The external light illumination detection sensor 41 is formed integrally on the top surface of a reverse-side glass substrate 3 between a couple of glass substrates 2 and 3 of the liquid crystal display panel 1. On the reverse surface of the top-side glass substrate 2, a black mask 42 is formed of metal such as chromium and resin black. In this case, when the field angle of the liquid crystal display panel 1 is within the angle of incidence anglesθ1 toθ2, an opening part 43 is formed at a specific place of the black mask 42, i.e., a specific distance off the center position of the light incidence surface 41a of the external light illumination detection sensor 41 in a specific direction so that only external light outside the range of the incidence angleθ1 toθ2 is made incident on the light incidence surface 41a of the external light illumination detection sensor 41.</p>
