PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make use of the characteristic of a superior lamp by providing a controlling means which executes a control based on the information of an illuminating means corresponding to the kind of a lamp mounted on the means. SOLUTION: A lamp 15 of an illuminating section has a data holding section 30 connected to a section 15b to be held. The section 30 holds the data related to the lamp 15 in a memory. In the memory, the data including the normal output of the lamp 15, emitted light quantity at a beginning, the emitted light quantity at the end of a service life and light emitting temperature as well as the data required to control the lamp position are written. A data input output terminal 44 is connected to a terminal 28 of the section 30 through a data line 31. The data related to the lamp 15 are transmitted to the control section in the projector. The control section control the position of the lamp 15 and the lamp unit based on the information of the illuminating section and determines the driving voltage of the lamp 15, for example.
