PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability in the case of hand scanning compatible with reduction in a capacity of white reference data. SOLUTION: In the case of color reading, LED light sources 13, 14, 15 are selected in time division to read an original, and in the case of monochromatic reading, a monochromatic light source, that is, the green LED light source 14 in this case turns on to read the original. Thus, white reference data are used in common for both the color reading and the monochromatic reading.
