An electromagnetic relay includes a base (40) made of an insulating material and forming a ground plane with its floor side, a long tilting armature (24) arranged above the base (40) and having two armature vanes (25,26), an insulating spring carrier (29) joined to the armature and carrying a contact spring (30,31) on either of the long sides of the armature, and a coil (15) arranged with its axis parallel to the ground plane and having an axially arranged core (14). A permanent magnet arrangement (20) has two like-poles (S), one in each pole-shoe (17,18), and an opposed pole (N) in the region of the rotary axis of the armature. The second (26) of the two armature vanes has a smaller overall width than the first (25) and the contact spring arrangement (33,35) is matched to its smaller width in the region of the second (26) armature vane.
