An electrochemical cell (10), typically a metal-air cell of button type includes an anode can (24) containing electrochemically active material (26), a cathode can (44) and a seal (60) therebetween. The anode can (24) is a three-layer structure, having a stainless steel core layer which comprises 77-91% by weight of the can, and respective outer layers of nickel and copper. The cathode can (44) is also a three-layer structure, having a cold rolled steel core layer between diffusion bonded outside layers of nickel; the structure is diffusion bonded outside layers of nickel; the structure is annealed after bonding, work hardened and tempered. <IMAGE> |
