An electroluminescent device having a transparent substrate (1) extending in the lengthwise direction of the device, a transparent conductive layer place d on the back surface (2) of the transparent substrate (1), a luminescent laye r (4) having a width smaller than the width of the transparent conductive laye r (2) and being placed on the back surface of the transparent conductive layer (2), a rear electrode (3) placed on the back surface of the luminescent laye r (4), and at least one buss (5) which is placed on the part of the back surfa ce of the transparent conductive layer (2) having no luminescent layer, has a width smaller than the width of the transparent conductiver layer (2), and i s electrically in contact with neither the luminescent layer (4) nor the rear electrode (3) in which the transparent conductive layer (2), the luminescent layer (4), the rear electrode (3) and the buss (5) continuously extend in th e lengthwise direction of the transparent substrate (1).
