The present invention concerns to the water which can be used in steam-generating installations, in the food, alcoholic-beverage, brewing and pharmaceutical industries and other industrial branches. This invention relates to a method for purifying and softening water from hardness salts (Ca, Mg, Sr) and impurities (Fe, Al, Cu, Zn, Cd, SiO3<2->, Ni, Co, Mn, Pb, Hg and other metals). The method is realised by interaction of the water with hydroxides of multivalent metals and regeneration of the hydroxides. The gel-like hydroxides of multivalent metals precipitate the above-mentioned impurities quantitatively; the hydroxides are practically insoluble in the water and non-polluting of the ecology and also are not dangerous for people's health.
