A fuel line coupling system for coupling a fuel tanker to a fuel supply tank and a fuel destination tank comprises an adjustable fuel type designator for the tanker coupling and a fuel type identifier means for the supply and destination tanks. The identifier means interacts with the designator means electronically or mechanically to prevent fuel coupling and transfer and/or to warn against incorrect coupling. The coupling system may be used on conventional API adapters 1, 2 and may comprise locating pins 4a-d extending from the rim of cup-shaped portion 3. The pins mate with sockets 5a-d provided in annular plate 10 which is rotatably mounted on a neck portion 7 of adapter 2 and is held against shoulder 15 by spring 12. The plate is further provided with keyways 8 which engage splines 9 mounted on neck portion 7. Rotating the plate 10 and having the pins and sockets in various positions allows for fuel-type specific coupling between the adapters 1, 2.
