PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bisphenol A having a hue stable at high temperatures without coloring. SOLUTION: Phenol is reacted with acetone using an acid type ion exchange resin as a catalyst and an alkyl mercaptan as a promoter to produce bisphenol A. In this case, the reaction is conducted under conditions of 60-100 deg.C reactional temperature, 6-13 molar ratio of the phenol/acetone and 13-25 molar ratio of the acetone/mercaptan to distill and remove the unreacted acetone, water formed as a by-product and the alkyl mercaptan as the promoter. Furthermore, the concentration of an organosulfur compound in the crystallization raw material after distilling and removing the excessive phenol is measured and the concentration is kept at <=200 wt.ppm.
|
