The invention comprises new alkaloid derivatives of general formula <FORM:1034677/C2/1> wherein both X's together represent an additional bond or each X represents a hydrogen atom, and the salts thereof with inorganic and organic acids and the preparation thereof by reducing a compound of formula <FORM:1034677/C2/2> with lithium aluminium hydride in a solvent containing ether oxygen and optionally converting the product into an acid addition salt, or, in the case of the compound of the first formula above in which each X is hydrogen, by catalytically hydrogenating the compound of the first formula above in which the X's represent an additional bond.
