A sliding door (10) having a sliding panel (12) is horizontally displaceable via wheels (17) between open and closed positions in an associated frame (13). In the closed position the sliding panel is sealable via sealing elements (18) against the frame (13) and an adjacent support panel (11). The sliding panel (12) is displaceable sideways from a stable sliding position towards an unstable support position with a combined, forcibly guided sliding movement and barring movement and from an unstable support position to a stable sliding position by means of the weight of the sliding panel. A stop means (30) forcibly guides the sliding panel (12) from sliding position towards support position and bars the sliding panel in a sealing-forming support position. The stop means permits automatic readjustment of the sliding panel from unstable support position to sliding position immediately the barring engagement is removed.
