PURPOSE: A method for recognizing a character is provided to increase a recognition performance by using a result recognized, and by selectively and additionally recognizing a character. CONSTITUTION: A form of a character is inputted(100). A candidate character element and an additional character element according to an initial consonant are recognized as the determined number. A score is calculated(110). A medial consonant is recognized according to the candidate character element of the initial consonant. A score is calculated(120). A final consonant is recognized according to the medial consonant. A score is calculated(130). The character elements are compounded. The final score is calculated(140). It is judged whether the number of total candidate characters are small(150). A character element of the medial consonant is recognized according to an additional character element of the initial consonant(160). The final consonant is recognized according to the medial consonant(170). The character elements are compounded. The final score is calculated(180). A character element combination inputted is arranged in score order(190).
