PURPOSE: A method of charging a bidirectional pager is to prevent degradation of sensitivity of a receiving portion of the pager during charging of a rechargeable battery used as a power source of a transmitting portion of the pager. CONSTITUTION: A bidirectional pager has a first battery as power source of a controlling portion, and a second rechargeable battery as power source of a transmitting portion of the bidirectional. After detecting a charged amount of the second rechargeable battery, whether a charging operation of the second rechargeable battery is needed is determined, If the charging operation of the rechargeable battery is needed, whether an operating mode of the pager is an auto-on mode or an auto-off mode is determined. If the operating mode of the pager is the auto-off mode, the second rechargeable battery is charged for a desired time. The auto-on/off mode is a function of automatically turn off and on the pager at desired time to reduce a consumption amount of the battery.
