PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet motor for a compressor, which has a rotor the cost of which is reduced by reducing the number part items, which is easy to assemble, whose windage loss is reduced, and whose safety and reliability can be improved. SOLUTION: A rotor 31 of the permanent magnet motor for a compressor has a cylindrical rotor core 33. A shaft hole 34, to which a shaft is fitted, is formed in the center part of the rotor core 33. Four magnet insertion holes 35 are provided around an axis. Permanent magnets 37 are inserted into the insertion holes 35 respectively. Two permanent magnets 37a and 37b, which are shifted in the axial directions opposite to each other, are inserted into a pair of insertion holes 35 provided symmetrically with respect to the axis among the four insertion holes. A balance weight adjustment weight 39 is arranged on the permanent magnets 37a which is shifted downward, and a nonmagnetic spacer 41 is put on the weight 39.
