摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image pickup device that generates a high definition image signal by using one image pickup element so as to obtain two image signals relatively deviated by 1/2 pixel in both vertical and horizontal directions. SOLUTION: An image pickup optical system 6 leads a reflected light from a photographed object to an image pickup element 5 to generate an image signal in the image pickup device. In this case, the image pickup optical system 6 is provided with a 1st polarization plate 1 that converts a reflected light from the photographing object into a 1st polarized light with a 1st polarization direction, a liquid crystal plate 2 that selects and emits an incident light from the polarization plate 1 into the polarized light and a 2nd polarized light orthogonal thereto corresponding to on/off of an applied voltage, and a double refraction plate 4 that is placed between the liquid crystal plate and the image pickup element and shifts the 2nd polarized light by a half of the inter-pixel pitch respectively in horizontal direction and a vertical direction of the pixel arrangement of the image pickup element with respect to the 1st polarized light.
