PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive film for a liquid crystal display device which has sufficient transparency in the visible light region and low permeability to oxygen and steam, and which is excellent in heat resistance, moisture resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance. SOLUTION: The film for a liquid crystal display device is prepared from a composition containing a polymer A containing a hydrogen bond accepting group, a metal alkoxide B of the formula, R1mM(OR2)n (M: metal element, R1 and R2 are each an alkyl or the like) and/or a condensate obtained by hydrolysis of the metal alkoxide. Otherwise, the film for liquid crystal display device is prepared by using a composition composed of a polymerizable monomer C, the metal alkoxide B of the formula shown above and/or the condensate obtained by hydrolysis of the alkoxide.
