PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction of contrast resulted from deterioration of black level by returned light reflected from a metallic cathode surface of an org. EL used as a back light in case only surrounding light use for a reflecting type. SOLUTION: A liq. crystal display cell 2 and a reflective polarizer 3 having a function, which transmits a linear polarization component in a prescribed direction among incident light and reflects a linear polarization component being orthogonal to the prescribed direction are arranged, and a polarizing plate 4 and a phase plate 5 converting a linear polarized light to a circular polarized light are arranged on its backside. And a back light 7 having reflecting characteristics, which does not make vary a polarized state of light entering in a rear side of the phase plate 5. |
