PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long time recording and reproducing device that attains a long time recording by compressing a recording signal so as to record the compressed signal to a recording disk medium, that is configured into a small size from the standpoint of the structure and that adjusts selectivity of image quality. SOLUTION: A system microcomputer 10 controls a video switcher section 3 to receive a prescribed camera image pickup video signal by a recording and reproducing device, the signal is digitized and given to an MPEG2 compression circuit 7. The system microcomputer 10 stores tentatively the video data to a D-RAM, monitors the data, and when the quantity of the video data reaches a data quantity corresponding to 15 frames, the MPG2 compression circuit 7 applies compression processing to the data and outputs the resulting data to a mixer circuit 14. The mixer circuit 14 composites the compressed video data and a plurality of audio signals that are compressed in time base by a audio compression circuit 13 according to a prescribed format and the composite data are recorded on a disk 26 by a recording and reproducing section 18. |
