PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a uniform cylindrical light-transmitting polymer base body having excellent light-transmitting property and proper surface roughness and undulation by polishing the surface of the body with a tape containing an abrasive. SOLUTION: A polishing tape 2 is slowly released from a release roll 3 to a winding roll 4 while a cylindrical light-transmitting polymer base body l is rotated, and the surface of the body is polished by adding pressing force to the tape with a press roll 5. The cylindrical light-transmitting polymer base body 1 is preferably obtd. by copolymn. of radical polymerizable monomers and polyfunctional vinyl compd. in the presence of a radical polymn. initiator. It is produced by centrifugal polymn. method, injection molding method or extrusion molding method. The surface roughness (ten-point average roughness) of the obtd. cylindrical light-transmitting polymer base body 1 is preferably <=2.0μm, more preferably 0.01 to 1.5μm. The undulation is <=3.0μm, preferably <=2.0μm.
