摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the design over the entire part of an optical system and to reduce the cost thereof. SOLUTION: This device has an illumination system 52 having a light source 57, a color separating system 53 for separating the luminous flux emitted from this illumination system 52 to the luminous fluxes of red, green and blue, three liquid crystal panels 54a to 54c for modulating the luminous fluxes of the respective colors separated by this color separating system 53 in accordance with video signals and a color synthesizing system 2 for synthesizing the modulated luminous fluxes of the respective colors modulated by these respective liquid crystal panels 54a to 54c. In such a case, a film-like polarizing plate 3 having a degree of polarization with a band of blue light is disposed between the liquid crystal panel 54a and the color synthesizing system 2. The absorption axis of this polarizing plate 3 is intersected orthogonally with the absorption axis of the analyzer of the liquid crystal panel 54a for red color modulation.
