A recovery drawbar for an armored vehicle is hinged on the rear of the vehicle and is lowered into the towing position by a cable (4) and a winch (14). The lower end of the cable is fed over a pulley (6) on the drawbar and into the hollow drawbar where it is secured via a spring coupling. The sprung mounting prevents strain on the cable as a vehicle is towed over rough ground. A microswitch on the spring coupling activates the winch to compensate for displacement of the drawbar.
