In an isotopic-selective ultra trace for actinoid element especially plutonium, the excitation scheme for plutonium is as follows: (1) lambda 1 = 420.764 nm (frequency duplicator to 841.528 nm) to excite from ground state 51<6>7s<27>Fo to 51<6>7s7p<7>D1 (2) lambda 2 = 750-850 nm (preferably 847.277 nm for excite from 51<6>7s7p<7>D1 to a none identified state of moment of momentum J = 2) and (3) lambda 3 = 850-750 nm (preferably 767.529 nm to excite from J =2 in a none tabulated state close to the ionization potential. The state is ionized efficiently by an electrical field or the use of a compact continuous wave CO2-laser (quarter laser). The process uses resonance ionization mass spectrometry. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus used in the isotopic-selective ultra trace determination.
