An electrophotographic layer comprises zinc oxide powder and an insulating film-forming material together with a water-insoluble cupric salt in amount 0À002 to 20% by weight of copper to the oxide. The cupric salt is preferably predominantly near the surface of the layer and may be the oxide, sulphide, selenide, hydroxide, carbonate, basic carbonate, phosphate, arsenite, formate, oxalate, oleate, stearate or mixtures thereof. In specific embodiments, paper, aluminium foil or a steel plate are coated with mixtures comprising zinc oxide, soya-bean oil-type alkyd resin, silicone resin, cobalt naphthenate and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide in toluene. The mixture may alternatively contain lead chromate, polyvinyl butyrate, styrene-modified alkyd resin, polybutyl methacrylate, aluminium stearate, sulphonamide resin, phenol-modified alkyd resin, epoxy-modified alkyd resin. Sensitizing dyes may be used whilst the paper substrate may be subbed with polyvinylpyrrolidone or P.V.A.</p> |
