<p>Greases comprise a lubricating oil, a metal soap, a metal sulphide and an oil-soluble sulphonate of formula (RSO3)-nAn+, where A is an alkali or alkaline earth metal or ammonium or alkyl amine group containing 2-6 carbon atoms or an omega-amino alkyl amine group containing 2-6 carbon atoms, e.g. ethylene diamine, n is the valency of A and R is an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl group of at least 6 carbon atoms; the grease being naphthenate free. The oil may be mineral or synthetic, e.g. ester or silicone oils. Sulphides specified are those of antimony and molybdenum. An extensive list of soaps is given which includes simple, mixed base and complex soaps of lithium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, barium, strontium, aluminium and lead with stearic, hydroxy stearic, dimerized fatty, hydrogenated ricinoleic and castor oil, palm oil, lard oil, fish oil and tallow acids.</p> |
