PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new substance available from a sponge belonging to the genus Lendenfeldia, having an attachment inhibiting activity for marine fouling organisms and useful as an antifouling agent for the marine fouling organisms. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula and has the following physico-chemical properties, molecular weight: 475; molecular formula: C29H46O5; solubility: readily soluble in chloroform, methanol and ethanol and sparingly soluble in water. The compound represented by the formula can be collected from a sponge belonging to the genus Lendenfeldia (preferably the sponge belonging to Lendenfeldia chondrodes). For example, the compound is obtained by extracting the sponge with acetone, methanol, etc., then purifying the extract according to a column chromatography and a high-performance liquid chromatography using an ion exchange resin, a gel filtration agent, etc. When the compound represented by the formula is used as an antifoulihg coating material, the compound represented by the formula is preferably formulated in an amount of 5-15% based on the weight of the coating material. The compound represented by the formula is preferably used for large-sized algae.
