PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To digitally display a weight range involving the weight of an object detected and to apply it to airbag operation control. SOLUTION: A number of two-position switches 28 (28-1 to 28-15) normally occupy first positions and occupy second positions in response to at least a force of a predetermined magnitude. The first positions represent a first weight range and the second positions represent a second weight. Supporting surfaces are located on the switches supporting an object being weighed. A decoding circuit 30 monitors the position of each two-position switch and imparts a digital display of the weight range including the weight of the object. In a vehicle airbag system, numerous groups of the two-position switches 28 are attached to occupant seats near airbags and the decoding circuit 30 imparts a digital display of the weight range including the weights of occupants seated on occupant seats, with a control device responding to the decoding circuit to control the operation of the airbags according to the weight range displayed.
