PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having excellent resistance to various treatment of keratin fibers, giving a clear coloring in a wide range of color tone and suitable for using as a self-oxidative compound for oxidative dyeing, a coupler and an oxidation base. SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by the formula (R1-R3 are each H, a halogen or the like; R4 and R5 are each H, a 1-6C alkyl, aryl, benzyl or the like), e.g. 3-[3-(2-aminophenylamino)propyl]-1-methyl-3H-imidazol-1-ium- monochloride. The compound of the formula is synthesized e.g. by starting from heating an aqueous solution of a mixture of 3-imidazol-1-yl propylamine with potassium carbonate.
