PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a belt for high-speed paper machine to be operated at several ten meters per second by providing a belt with a sensor for radiating the electromagnetic radiation when the belt is excited by an external energy source so as to obtain the effective information about various condition during the traveling of the belt. SOLUTION: A sensor 20 is activated by a first light source 90 for radiating the energy at a first wavelengthλ1. A guidance target is the energy to be radiated from the sensor 20 of a belt 10, and this radiation energy has a wavelengthλ2. The energy radiated from the sensor 20 can be received by a full spectrum detecting unit 94 or a detecting unit to be matched with a filter for passing the only wavelengthλ2. A control device 96 sends the output signal in response to the detection of the wavelengthλ2, and controls a mechanical control unit 98. Information related with the contraction of paper sheets and information necessary for ascertaining the existence of damage or tear of the paper sheets can be obtained by using two or more sensors.
