The invention comprises monoazo dyes of the formula <FORM:0948160/C3/1> wherein R represents a radical of the benzene or naphthalene series containing at least one sulphonic or carboxylic acid group, X represents a bromine atom or a chlorine atom and Y represents an amino or substituted amino group containing up to 12 carbon atoms. The radical Y may be derived from such amines as methylamine, 2-hydroxyethylamine, aniline and anilines substituted with sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups or both sulphonic and carboxylic groups. The dyes are produced by reacting (a) ammonia or an appropriate amine with an appropriate dihalotriazinyl aminobenzene azo dye or (b) an appropriate aminobenzene azo dye with an appropriate dihaloaminotriazine or (c) by coupling an appropriately substituted aniline with an appropriately substituted pyrazolone.
