PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To house a rod-shaped cosmetic, such as a lipstick or eye shadow, to make the color of the housed rod-shaped cosmetic identifiable during sales and display and to prevent the deterioration of the housed rod-shaped cosmetic. SOLUTION: This rod-shaped cosmetic container internally has an extension mechanism which vertically slides the rod-shaped cosmetic 1 by relatively rotating a sleeve 13 which houses the rod-shaped cosmetic 1 and is exposed to the outside of the container 42 and a main body cylinder 14 and an intermediate point detaining mechanism which detains the rod-shaped cosmetic 1 in an intermediate point position. The upper part of the main body cylinder 14 is provided with a fitting part 30 to which a cap 16 is insertably and removably fitted. In such a case, a temporary cap 11 which is molded of a transparent synthetic resin, is insertably and removably fitted to the fitting part 30, has a length fittable to the container 42 in the state of protruding the rod-shaped cosmetic 1 from the top end of the sleeve 13 in the intermediate point detaining position of the rod-shaped cosmetic 1 and is insertably and removably fitted with the cap 16 at its top end is fitted to the container 42 and further, the cap 16 is fitted to this temporary cap 11 at the time of exhibition and sales.
