PURPOSE: A wet strength resin is provided to maintain the wet strength of a paper product for a short time. CONSTITUTION: A temporary wet strength resin comprises: the 5-50wt% ionic aqueous vinyl amide polymer having the weight average molecular amount of 200,000-2,000,000 and the -CHOHCHO substituting agent thermally hardened with the suitable glyoxal-reacted amide substituting agent; and the 50-95wt% glyoxalized cationic aqueous vinyl amide polymer containing the 70-99wt% vinyl amide and the 1-30wt% cationic monomer or the mixture of cationic monomer, and having the suitable glyoxal-reacted amide substituting agent having the molecular amount of 500-6000 before glyoxalizing and the -CHOHCHO substituting agent hardened thermally. The resin is used to a tissue, a towel, and other absorbing paper.
