PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dilithium salt of 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole useful as a photosensitive material, a coating material, an inhibitor, a metallic surface- treating agent, a raw material for a lubricating oil additive, a raw material monomer for a plastic for a high refractive index use, an electrode material for a lithium electric battery, and a raw material for a medicine and an agrochemical, or an intermediate therefor. SOLUTION: This dilithium salt dihydrate of 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole represented by the chemical formula is obtained by reacting 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4- thiadiazole with lithiation agent at 0-120 deg.C while adjusting the molar ratio of the lithium in the lithiation agent so as to be 1.8-3.0 molar times as mush as the amount of the 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole.
