PURPOSE: A portable communication device having mode conversion function and a mode conversion control system are provided to set call mode suitable to peripheral environment, and to prevent inconvenience of peripheral people due to call sound. CONSTITUTION: A mode conversion control system comprises a signal generator(6) and a portable communication device(5). The signal generator generates mode conversion signals of prescribed band in order to convert the call mode of the portable communication device. The portable communication device receives the mode conversion signals transmitted from the signal generator to automatically convert present call mode into the call mode suitable to peripheral environment. The communication device has a first antenna(121) transmitting and receiving call and voice signals, a second antenna(156) receiving the mode conversion signal, a memory(137) storing present call mode status and a mode conversion unit(141).
