PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating material, curable at room temperature or by baking to form the coating film, suitable for repairing a coating film on an automobile exterior plate, and also provide a method for coating using the same, suitable for repairing, in a production line, a defective multi-layer coating film on an automobile exterior plate. SOLUTION: This resin composition dispersible in water is obtained by radical polymerization, in the presence of a polymerization initiator, a stock mixture comprising (1) a polymer or copolymer resin having a polysiloxy portion and number-average molecular weight of 500 to 20,000 at 3 to 40 wt.% based on the solid portion of the stock mixture, and (2) a monomer mixture containing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having an acidic group and another ethylenically unsaturated monomer; and by dispersing the radical-polymerization product in water. This aqueous coating material composition contains an aqueous polyurethane resin and pigment.
