PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a hydraulic unit and to install a system without providing an engine room by feeding and discharging a hydraulic fluid from two positions at the upper and lower sections of a cylinder via oil feed pipes in an elevator controlling the pressure of the hydraulic fluid to lift or lower a car. SOLUTION: A cylinder 6 is connected to a hydraulic unit 1 by oil feed pipes 5, 9, and the hydraulic unit 1 is constituted of a pump 3 force-feeding a hydraulic fluid, a motor 2 connected to the pump 3, and a control valve 4 controlling the flow of the hydraulic fluid. An upper feed/discharge port 11 feeding/discharging a hydraulic fluid having the atmospheric pressure above the stopper 10 of a plunger 8 and a lower feed/discharge port 12 feeding/ discharging the hydraulic fluid having a load below the stopper 10 of the plunger 8 are provided in the cylinder 6. The quantity of the hydraulic fluid required for lifting or lowering the car 7 can be invariably stored at the upper section or lower section by the stopper 10 in the cylinder 6, and the hydraulic unit 1 is miniaturized.
