PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device reducing the number of keys to be used for input operation to one or two keys so as to execute efficient input operation one-handedly. SOLUTION: Characters to be inputted are divided into character groups each of which consists of plural characters, a character group name is given to each character group and respective character group names are switched and displayed in the descending order of application frequency by key operation for displaying character group names. When a character group name including a character to be inputted is displayed, characters included in the character group are switched and displayed in the descending order of application frequency by key operation for displaying characters, so that an objective character can be specified by the small number of key operations.
