PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the surface layer of an electrifying roller from sticking to a photoreceptor, to prevent toner from melt-sticking to the photoreceptor surface and to prevent the production of abnormal images by constituting a surface layer of a material having a specified range of 100%-elongation tensile strength in the electrifying roller providing the surface layer on a conductive elastic layer. SOLUTION: This electrifying roller is produced by concentrically providing a conductive elastic layer 11 around a rotation axis and further, providing a surface layer 12 on the outer peripheral surface of the conductive elastic layer 11. The surface layer 12 consists of a conductive material having 3.0 to 13.0 MPa range of 100%-elogation tensile strength. If the 100%-elongation tensile strength is less than 3.0 MPa, sticking of the electrifying roller 1 to a photoreceptor is caused. If the tensile strength exceeds 13.0 MPa, melt sticking of residual toner to the photoreceptor is caused under high temp. and high humidity conditions. Abnormal images generate in any cases. In order to electrify the surface of the electrifying roller 1 to a specified polarity and potential, a conductive material such as carbon black is added to obtain 107 to 1012Ωcm volume intrinsic resistance.
