PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a device that receives a transmitted video signal with a spread spectrum signal superimposed thereon to surely and accurately detect information denoted by the spread spectrum signal superimposed on the video signal. SOLUTION: A video signal outputted from an authoring device has superimposed periods and non-superimposed periods based on an attribute pattern predetermined in response to additional information generated by a superimposing pattern generating section 7 and a spread spectrum signal is superimposed on the video signal. A device receiving the video signal from the authoring device applies inverse spread spectrum processing to the video signal to discriminate the superimposing/non-superimposing pattern of the spread spectrum signal superimposed on the video signal and to obtain the additional information denoted by the superimposing/non-superimposing pattern.
