PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of a rotor and to facilitate positioning and fixing of a permanent magnet. SOLUTION: Eight sets (16) of wedge grooves 2 are made uniformly in the outer circumference of a rotary shaft 1 and eight permanent magnets 3 are arranged on the outer circumference of the rotary shaft 1. The permanent magnets 3 are secured to the rotary shaft 1 by means of a cover 4. The cover 4 is a tubular member of magnetic material having inner cross-section similar to that of the permanent magnet 3. The cover 4 has a fringe 42 matching in shape that of the groove 2. At the time of positioning and fixing the permanent magnet 3, the cover 4 is fixed to the rotary shaft 1 by fitting the fringe 42 of the cover 4 in the groove 2 and then the permanent magnet 3 is inserted into the cover 4. The permanent magnet 3 is held between the cover 4 and the rotary shaft 1 by the resiliency of the cover 4.
