PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate the position of mechanical interaction by applying a potential across two conductive surfaces, deciding the position of the mechanical interaction, and deciding 2nd electric characteristics and discriminating other characteristics of the mechanical interaction. SOLUTION: During operation, the voltage is applied across a 1st surface 102 to take a measurement and then across a 2nd surface 103 to take another measurement, and the voltage is applied to only one of the 1st and 2nd surface at any time. When the voltage is applied to terminals 107 and 108, a voltage gradient appears on the surface 102. When mechanical interaction occurs, the surface 103 comes into contact with the surface 102 and the voltage applied actually to the surface 103 is at the position of the interaction. Similarly, when the voltage is applied to terminals 111 and 112, a voltage gradient appears on the surface 103 and then the mechanical interaction is considered to apply the voltage to the surface 102. Similarly, the voltage applied to the surface 102 actually is at the actual position of the interaction. Thus, a position in a surface can be discriminated by taking two kinds of measurement of some mechanical interaction.
